Anglican 'Church' Asks Darwin For Forgiveness
Anglican officials have
confirmed that it was to "atone" 200 years later for what appears to being basically flexible
during the time Darwin was living. I say "flexible" because Anglican
theologian Charles Kingsley embraced evolution with no problem when Darwin was
living. Darwin biographer Janet Browne noticed it too as she stated,
“remarkable flexibility of the Anglican church when faced with evolutionary
issues.”
So even back then Anglicanism
wasn't exactly joining Christian fundamentalists in their opposition for
naturalism being the cause of creation. Anglicanism early this earlier this year
passed a bill endorsing evolution. Now on Darwin's birthday, they want to
distant themselves again by telling someone who has been dead for 200 years that
they are sorry for being flexible, and not a staunch supporter. The announcement
of was written by the Rev. Dr. Malcolm Brown, the director of mission and public
affairs of the Archbishops' Council, headed by Williams.
"People, and institutions,
make mistakes and Christian people and churches are no exception," it continues.
"When a big new idea emerges that changes the way people look at the world, it's
easy to feel that every old idea, every certainty, is under attack and then to
do battle against the new insights. The Church made that mistake with Galileo's
astronomy and has since realized its error. Some Church people did it again in
the 1860s with Charles Darwin's theory of natural selection. So it is important
to think again about Darwin's impact on religious thinking, then and now."
Former Conservative Minister
Ann Widdecombe, who left the Church of England to become a Roman Catholic, said,
"It's absolutely ludicrous. Why don't we have the Italians apologizing for
Pontius Pilate? 'We've already apologized for slavery and for the Crusades.
Andrew Darwin, a great-great grandson of the eminent scientist, said he was
"bemused" by the apology, which seemed "pointless." "Why bother?" he said. "When
an apology is made after 200 years, it's not so much to right a wrong, but to
make the person or organization making the apology feel better." I will tell you
the real reason why they are doing this and it wasn't to make Andrew Darwin feel better although I bet he doesn't
really mind at all, the real reason is to continue it's war against the true
church (all believers), founded by Christ himself.
Christians ought to pray for
the lost souls of the Anglican 'church' as they embrace more and more
liberalism, and try to go out of their way to attack the true saints of God.
